No, these Bowmans aren't related, but they share their considerable talent on the stage.
Joel Bowman plays Jonathon (son of King Saul) in CALLED BY NAME, The Story of Mephibosheth (September 21-23 at Austin Oaks Church). Joel is a sophomore at Bowie High School. He has been performing for public audiences since he was 5-years old, when he played the Young Kangaroo in "Seussical" at the Dell Jewish Community Center. Most recently, he played a sinister Flotsom in "The Little Mermaid" at Bailey Middle School and won a UIL Acting Gold Medal in 2016 for the role of Harvey in "The Secret Life of Toads."
Meredith Bowman, a mezzo-soprano, brings a wealth of performance experience to the ensemble of CALLED BY NAME. She holds a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from Queens College and was named to the Governor's Honors Program in Vocal Performance in the State of Georgia. She has sung with Opera Carolina in "Carmen" and "Porgy and Bess," and with Queens College in "Cosi fan Tutti" and "The Ballad of Baby Doe," among others. Meredith has performed with Reader's Theatre and is active in the theatre arts ministry at Austin Oaks Church.
FUN FACTS: Joel's older brother, Tommy Martinez, played Romeo and understudied Crutchie in "Newsies" on Broadway (2013-14) and was in "Hairspray Live!" on NBC (2016). Meredith sings a mean Madame de la Grande Bouche (aka, the enchanted wardrobe in "Beauty and the Beast") - watch out Audra McDonald!
