The DG's Austin-San Antonio Region offered its first ever Weekend Intensive for musical theatre writers. Designed to support individual writers, as well as collaborative teams, this intensive enabled writers to gain valuable new tools for developing musicals, and to present work for feedback in a supportive atmosphere. Appropriate for playwrights, lyricist, and composers with projects at any stage of development, the intensive ia a creative kick-starter for new work and/or offer fresh perspectives on projects already in process.
Attendees were so moved by the intensive, they sent us messages regarding their experience:
Glenna Bowman: "I just want to pass along what a wonderful workshop we had in Austin this past weekend (April 21-22) with Cheryl (Cheri) Coons! The material covered was comprehensive and Cheri is such a seasoned pro. Thank you for supporting this DG opportunity in our region. We would love to host again in the future!
Kudos to Sheila Rinear for her outstanding support and Miriam Relyea for her untiring efforts on behalf of the dramatists in our local area. I will be at the DG National Conference in NYC in July."
Kathleen Coombs: "I am a DG member currently living in Austin and I attended the Musical Theatre workshop this past weekend. Thank you so much for the work you and the rest of the DG put in to make that workshop happen. Austin can feel quite isolating at times and it was a needed breath of creative fresh air for me.
I truly appreciate the DG making its presence known down here and offering such a great workshop. Cheryl Coons is a focused, kind teacher and I am grateful to have learned from her." |
