This is the first time in the Hall of Fame's history that two people from the same graduating class have been inducted in the same year. Prior inductees include NFL linebacker, Zach Thomas, opera star, Mary Jane Johnson, and well-respected civic leaders.

During the induction ceremony, Bowman's acceptance speech was met with a standing ovation. Her message was this: "Be the hero of your story. ... Don't let others tell you who or what you should be, or what you are. Don't tell yourself that you're not good enough or life hasn't dealt you the hand you wanted. Look for the best in yourself and re-frame the narrative. Be the hero of your story."

According to Cheryl Coons, DG Chicago Regional Representative who coordinated the showcase selection process, 117 songs totaling over 6 hours of recorded music, were submitted for consideration and only 10 were chosen for the showcase. While Glenna Bowman's moving ballad was not chosen for the showcase, Coons said, "A Gilded Cage was thought of very highly by the committee.

Best Musical

The Band’s Visit

SpongeBob SquarePants: The Musical

These four shows are SO different. Mean Girls is very smart and funny and, with Tina Fey at the helm, is a good bet to win. Then, again, SpongeBob, is a surprising competitor in this category, so maybe all bets are off. Even with the big budget Disney offering, Frozen, Glenna and Tommy are rooting for The Band's Visit to win. The show is unlike most other musicals currently running on Broadway. It is funny, poignant, and beautifully told.

Best Play

The Children

Latin History for Morons

Glenna and Tommy don't see a lot of plays, but Tommy saw Harry Potter in April and was blown away, saying it is "something special that hasn't been seen on Broadway." It will be interesting to see if the other shows in this category can rise above this behemoth 5-hour, two-part production.

Best Revival of a Musical

My Fair Lady

Once On This Island

Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Carousel

Sadly, neither Glenna, nor Tommy, has seen My Fair Lady, but they have heard great things about the show. Once On This Island is also a strong contender. Glenna and Tommy are both fans of Carousel in the featured actor and actress categories (see below), but, perhaps, not for the overall musical. Carousel is a beautiful, visual show, with outstanding dancers. but the story may be a little outdated for today's audiences, even as it offers loads of nostalgia for fans of the original production (1945) or past revivals (1954 and 1957).

Best Original Score (Music and/or Lyrics) Written for the Theatre

Just ask anyone who knows us. :) This busy-ness can be a good thing - because we are productive, we get a lot accomplished, and we are able to serve people. But there is a down-side. In our pursuit of the next best project, we sometimes lose sight of one another. We forget that we need to remain connected. This past weekend, we spent some time at The Narrows, located on a ranch in Blanco County, Texas. We went with the Boy Scouts, but this was a "Chill" campout, i.e., the point was to "chill" out. And we did. Unlike most scout campouts, which are filled with activities to earn merit badges or engage in service projects, we had no agenda. We spent the weekend swimming, eating, and visiting - mostly without smart phones and social media. I had a great opportunity to re-connect with my husband, as well as other adult leaders, and the scouts (including our 14-year-old son). I appreciate social media and the way it allows us to remain connected when we are physically apart, but it is so wonderful to connect in person!

Tell us about your latest experience connecting with someone.SoundBeacon Entertainment, LLCtag:soundbeaconent.com,2005:Post/43627212016-09-08T12:29:56-05:002017-01-16T08:09:23-06:00Hairspray Live!Stay tuned for an up close and personal announcement about this much-anticipated event!

I can't say anything just yet, but BIG news is coming soon!

SoundBeacon Entertainment, LLCtag:soundbeaconent.com,2005:Post/43611662016-09-07T16:00:10-05:002017-01-16T08:09:23-06:00Thanks for VOTING!
Thanks to everyone who voted in our song contest!
Kim Carroll, Director of Christian Education at Manchaca United Methodist Church, does a phenomenal job involving and engaging kids at Vacation Bible School each year. This year, we have over 200 kids participating! It is always a happy time, with lots of fun, where everyone can participate! If you know a special person who involves you or your kids in some activity - it can be anything - be sure to thank them for all they do. These are very special people and we are lucky to have them in our lives and the lives of our children!
SoundBeacon Entertainment, LLCtag:soundbeaconent.com,2005:Post/43012412016-07-31T13:15:00-05:002016-08-02T14:10:22-05:00It's How You Live the DashI attended a funeral last Friday for Bernice Audrey Brannen Ford. She was 102! How amazing is that?! Pastor Tracey Beadle (Manchaca United Methodist Church) honored Bernice by sharing the story of another preacher who looked at a tombstone and noted that we always talk about the date of birth and the date of death, but what is most important is the dash (-) between the two dates. It is not when our lives begin and end that counts, but what we do on the journey. Bernice lived her dash to the fullest. She went BACK to work at age 75 and she loved her family VERY much. Most importantly, she knew God was her beginning and end, the Alpha and Omega, and she looked to Christ to guide her throughout her very long and blessed dash.

I encourage each of you to live your dash to the fullest, knowing that God is your Alpha and Omega!

Check out our song singles and share a message of hope and inspiration with someone you love.3:55SoundBeacon Entertainment, LLCtag:soundbeaconent.com,2005:Post/42992652016-07-30T12:05:00-05:002016-07-30T12:05:40-05:00Mama Bears the LoadI was thinking today of all the sacrifices moms make for their children. There are no lengths to which a mother will not go to help her children. My family and I have been so blessed, so I feel pretty good when I help my kids with their homework, or go see them perform or participate in some activity. But there are moms who have kids with special needs. Their kids must go to the doctor regularly, they have medical issues with no obvious (or quick) answers, they have complex behavioral issues, so it requires WORK - lots of it - just to keep their kids healthy and mentally on the right track.

Moms, I salute you! I pray for God's blessing on all of you because you pull up your bootstraps every day and you meet the challenges of life head-on! You never quit just because it isn't easy - even when you feel like you want to quit. This song is for you. It is a tribute from your children who understand the love you have for them - and an encouragement when you and your child butt heads - which I hear can happen from time to time. ;)

Train up your child in the way he should go and when he is old, he will not depart from it.
(Proverbs 22:6)

NOTE to DADS, I know you make sacrifices for your kids, too. I was just thinking of moms today.

Go to Song Singles - Country to download the full version of "Mama Bears the Load" and share it with someone you love!

This song is also on the album Which Wayz West.

0:49SoundBeacon Entertainment, LLCtag:soundbeaconent.com,2005:Post/42991192016-07-29T17:30:00-05:002016-07-29T17:32:56-05:00Pilates is not the only form of cross-trainingI have never considered myself a "runner." I've always been pretty satisfied being a "walker" - same benefits as running(mostly), but less work. :) In my late 30's, I met this handsome guy - who later became my husband. He was a runner, so the only way I could see him in the mornings (including Saturdays) was to be a "runner." I never did truly consider myself a runner, but I did manage to do some 7-mile runs (those were my "marathon" runs, for all of you real runners who are laughing at this right now.) Anyway, now that I am "older," my husband, along with several of my friends, still aspire to run, so I dutifully participate - even as I get slower. Of course, no good runner would be satisfied with just running. No, we must "cross-train" - you know, do pilates, lift weights, kick-box. But these all sound too much like exercise to me, so I quietly abstain. There are, however, other options. This week, I chose to rearrange furniture and rake leaves in the yard. Based on the way my body is protesting every time I get up from my chair, I have decided these definitely qualify as cross-training activities. So, to all of you who do your own housework and yard work, you are AWESOME! And you are my cross-training heroes!

Check out the music at www.soundbeaconmusic.com.

I hope you find something that will inspire you today!
SoundBeacon Entertainment, LLCtag:soundbeaconent.com,2005:Post/42988522016-07-28T11:40:00-05:002016-07-30T16:29:32-05:00Sometimes God uses irony to get His point across.
One morning, as I was getting ready to go to church, I was irritated with my husband. I am sure it was all his fault and I did everything I could to respond to him with love and grace. ;) So, I was upset. And then I noticed that the birds were singing outside. It dawned on me that there was still much to smile about. The sun was shining, the birds were singing, and I could choose to lay aside my irritation, love my husband, and be filled with joy. So I wrote this song.

Out of life's little irritations can come joy-filled blessings. Now that's irony. I love God!

Yellow Warbler photo by Keith Williams https://academy.allaboutbirds.org/birdsong/
0:51SoundBeacon Entertainment, LLCtag:soundbeaconent.com,2005:Post/42970242016-07-27T12:20:56-05:002016-07-27T12:20:56-05:004 Dudes Cry Out to God with Church HymnThanks to my sister, Gail Threet, for inspiring me today with this song!

4 Dudes Cry Out to God with Church Hymn

I hope this will inspire you today!

Glenna Rhea Bowman
SoundBeacon Music and Performing ArtsSoundBeacon Entertainment, LLCtag:soundbeaconent.com,2005:Post/42935372016-07-25T10:53:06-05:002016-07-25T10:53:06-05:00One Step Closer
I'm going to the recording studio today to work on "Gabriel, Pack Your Trumpet." I started writing music in 1998. The very talented Steve Jones, who was Music Minister at Westlake Bible Church at that time, generously encouraged me when I handed him my first set of lyrics and said, "I've got this melody and these words, so can you can just play something that goes with this, so we can present it in worship?" :) I had no idea what I was asking for at the time. Steve made it look so effortless to come up with chords to go with my melody and he was always so willing to help me. It was many years later, after I had worked with many more talented musicians and tried my own hand at composing, that I began to understand what a gift God provided me in this person, Steve Jones! Without Steve, I don't know how (or even if) I would have continued down my songwriting path.

As I add to this blog, I will mention other amazing people who have taught and mentored me over the years. For now, I want to thank YOU for stopping by.

I hope you find something that will inspire you today!

Glenna RheaSoundBeacon Entertainment, LLC
